Black Belt - 5th Degree
Sensei Joe is a Godan (5th degree Black Belt) with over 24 years experience in Cuong Nhu. Sensei Joe and his wife, Kathy, founded Satori Dojo in 1994 (then Southern Irie Dojo). He began his Cuong Nhu training at Gettysburg College, in 1987, under the tutelage of Sensei Kay Etheridge, earning his black belt in only three years. Sensei Joe was a member of the Gettysburg Collegiate Boxing Team, and has trained in Judo and Wing Chun, as well as various weapons systems ranging from Philipino Escrima to Medieval Sword and Shield. Sensei Joe served as the Northeast Regional Representative for the Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts Association from 1993 to 2002, and he wrote and illustrated four Cuong Nhu Training Manuals, which were adopted by the association and which cover the entire curriculum from White Belt to Shodan. Sensei Joe holds a Masters degree in Elementary Education and worked as a fifth grade teacher for 10 years. In 2006, he was certified as a master instructor of The Bao Way System of Self Defense. He currently spends his days raising his two children and teaching martial arts.
